Circular Cycling
This book provides insight into a circular future vision for the bicycle industry from two pioneers. Currently, the bicycle industry operates in a linear fashion: companies operate on the adage "sell more, sell faster. Every few years, bicycle brands introduce new parts for road bikes, which are not compatible with existing and older parts. In a circular bicycle industry, materials are used longer because they are designed with a long life cycle in mind. Maintenance is easier and, through data, users know when parts are "finished" and need to be replaced. To make a profit from circular design strategies, bicycle manufacturers must change their business models. To do this, the book lists four circular design incentives: design for longevity; compatibility, adaptability and upgradeability; ease of maintenance and repair and lastly, choose the right materials. According to the authors, the circular bicycle industry is a win-win-win situation: for consumers, the industry and for the planet.
