At the foundation of a circular economy is a new way of designing. New circular design strategies and techniques are already in development. Now the task is to integrate this knowledge into education and training. Both in practical and theoretical training. This way, up-and-coming product designers, architects, engineers, builders and entrepreneurs are being taught circular thinking at an early age and workers are being retrained. But a circular economy requires more than just new knowledge. It also requires new competencies. Competencies that match the holistic view of circularity.
Systems thinking is one of the important competencies for the circular transition. We need people with an understanding of the interdependence between dynamic and complex systems. And we need people who can connect chains. Who see opportunities and dare to go off the beaten path.
The availability of circular knowledge and competencies are a prerequisite for a successful circular economy. In the contributions on this page you will find input on what knowledge and competencies we need, how to train professionals to do so, where this is already happening and in what way.
