Webinar by CIRCO trainer Arthur ten Wolde on Extended Producer Responsibility (UPV). Interesting for producers but also product designers and developers. So that through innovative circular design waste is prevented. It is explained in what situations and under what conditions UPV can work well. Followed by practical examples of discarded cars, batteries, packaging, electronic equipment, textiles and mattresses and sheet material.
Extended Producer Responsibility (UPV) means that producers and importers are (partly) responsible for the waste management of the products they put on the market. Therefore, it is important to design products circularly. In many sectors there is legislation for this (in the making). For example, European Legislation has decided on extensions and higher targets for recycling, packaging and landfill: e.g. 70% recycling for packaging by 2030. UPV's starting point for Circular Design is: that the whole cycle is included in the design of a business proposition. Closing the chain is therefore central. Besides examples per product group, opportunities for eco-modulation for tariffs are also given. UPV with eco-modulation stimulates innovation and waste management costs go down through eco-innovation.
