Circular installations: where circularity really begins

Circular installations make all the difference. They determine how long a building will last, how flexibly it can be changed, and how much energy and raw materials it will consume during its lifetime. Yet in many circular ambitions, installations remain underexposed or are made technically complicated. That is a shame, because installation technology is not an afterthought. It is a lever.

On Wednesday, March 25, we will make circular installations understandable and applicable. We will show how circular principles are translated into practice in terms of design choices, agreements, requirements, and collaboration. Not based on an ideal image, but on the daily reality of projects in which not everything has been finalized yet.

The urgency is clear. The availability of raw materials is declining and is increasingly determined by geopolitical tensions, the environmental impact of building installations is significant (and rising), and at the same time, installations are essential for energy-efficient and future-proof buildings. Anyone who wants to achieve the circular goals for 2035 and 2050 must therefore start thinking and acting differently in terms of installation technology.

The TVVL expert group Circular Installations develops knowledge, strategies, and practical tools to make this step possible. In this session, we will take participants through:

• why circular installations are crucial for the circular economy,
• what obstacles still stand in the way,
• and above all: how it can be done in practice.

We share concrete examples, including the Program of Requirements (PvE) for Circular Installations, experiences from relevant projects, and an additional practical example in which new forms of collaboration and ownership have been explored. This shows how circular ambitions are translated into choices that designers, clients, and contractors can already make today. Although technology is central, this session is explicitly intended for a broader audience (anyone with an interest).
