Grip on Commodities: quick insight into supply risks

Grip on Commodities

Raw materials can suddenly become more expensive, difficult to supply or even disappear altogether. The impact of this on production processes and operations is significant. In some cases, you have to make major adjustments immediately. When you depend on specific materials and semi-finished products, it directly affects the continuity of your organization.

With Grip on Commodities, Circonnect's new design tool around the Commodity Scanner, you get quick insight into the risk profile of the materials you use. In addition, you discover how circular design can contribute to long-term supply security. So you'll make a quick start recognizing risks and seizing opportunities.

From scanner to complete tool

The Raw Materials Scanner was developed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. TNO provides the underlying data. A wide range of internationally recognized data sources were brought together for the scanner, including data from the UN, World Bank and FAO. This information is translated in the Commodity Scanner into a customized analysis of products, raw materials and their countries of origin. The scanner contains data on 64 non-renewable and various renewable commodities, assessed against 11 risk indicators.

With Grip on Commodities, we help you to clearly identify the current supply risks in your chain. Think of factors such as availability, social conditions and geopolitical developments. By providing insight into these risks, you get a better grip on the materials that are crucial for your product(s). From that insight, concrete solutions are then worked on. Circular design strategies play an important role here, as they help mitigate business risks and strengthen long-term supply security.

Here's how to use the Grip on Resources tool

The tool is suitable for organizations in the manufacturing industry and consumer goods (electronics) sector, and particularly relevant for SMEs, clients, buyers and chain collaborations. You can use the tool to examine the business risks of raw material scarcity and take the first steps toward greater security of supply.

During the Grip on Commodities workshop, the digital Commodity Scanner will be used to quickly gain initial insight into scarcity, price fluctuations and risks of damaging your corporate reputation. In the second part of the workshop, you examine how circular strategies contribute to reducing these risks. In this way you create a clear starting point to recognize business risks and seize new opportunities.

Check our calendar for upcoming workshops on the Grip on Raw Materials tool. If there are no workshops scheduled, or if the date/location is not convenient for you, sign up for our online learning environmentand put yourself on the waiting list for this tool.

Getting started yourself

You can also work independently with Grip on Commodities; you will learn how to use the tool strategically and make an initial exploratory scan based on your product(s).
