National policy

The government has set three goals to make the Dutch economy circular as soon as possible. One of those goals is the following:

Develop new production methods and design new products circularly.

More about this goal and other objectives for a circular economy can be read in the Circular Economy Implementation Program.

European policy

Policies on circular design are also being made at the European level. In late March 2022, the European Commission presented a proposal for a new Regulation on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products: European Sustainable Product Regulations (ESPR). The proposal includes new requirements for products. Read more about the EU proposal here.

Rijkswaterstaat

Rijkswaterstaat's Circular Economy and Waste Department is the knowledge center on circular economy and waste. Our ambition is to close the cycles of raw materials and thus bring a circular economy closer. Together with its partners in the supply chain, Rijkswaterstaat is working to close material and product chains by carrying out projects on circular design, sustainable procurement and the recycling of chains such as plastic and textiles.
