There is a lot of talk about Life Cycle Analyses (LCA). LCAs are often discussed in the media and trade magazines about whether a product is more or less environmentally damaging. But how does an LCA work? Is it complicated? What's behind it? How do you perform an LCA? Can you do it yourself or can you check an LCA of others?

On this class day, you will learn what an LCA is, and most importantly, how to make an LCA. Participants are asked to choose a product. This could be your company's product, or it could be another product. With information about the material and weight of the parts, an LCA will be made of your chosen product on the teaching day. Only 12 places are available for this teaching day, in order to allow sufficient time for all participants.

In preparation for the class day, you need to choose your own product and gather information about its components (type of material and weight). This is what we will work with. You will also need a laptop computer and some familiarity with Excel: copy/paste, multiplication and addition. On the class day you will be given three books that will further support you in making LCAs. These are:

  1. "A Quick Reference Guide to LCA DATA and Eco-based Materials Selection."
  2. "LCA, a practical guide for students, designers and business managers"
  3. "EVC; Eco-efficient Value Creation, sustainable design and business strategies"

However, the development and delivery of a teaching day and other activities involve costs for the knowledge platform and therefore we ask for a contribution of 350 euros (excluding 21% VAT).

You can register by sending an email to j.h.welink@tudelft.nl, stating name, company name, address and phone number, as well as prepare a photo for the network directory (if desired).
