Circonnect partner Rijkswaterstaat, together with Partners for Innovation, is organizing a symposium on Refuse & Rethink on April 15. The goal of this symposium is to increase attention to these circular strategies within education (including design, marketing and business administration).

It is important that (future) designers, marketers and business experts are trained to be critical about the need for certain products and services, and that they can think at a systems level about fulfilling functions and needs. There is also much to be gained in business. There, refuse & rethink solutions are still hardly in demand. Circular designers, marketers and business experts must therefore also be able to advocate the importance and added value of such ideas.

Together with the participants, we will explore how to further integrate these important skills into the curriculum. It promises to be an interesting afternoon with presentations and workshops from the following experts:

  • Dr. Ir. Inge Oskam, lecturer in circular design & entrepreneurship, HvA

Inge Oskam has been a lecturer at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) since 2007 and has led the lectureship Circular Design & Entrepreneurship since 2015. She received her PhD from the Free University on research into the role of stakeholder interaction in the development of sustainable business models.

Presentation: Rethink as a strategy to get to the root of the problem
Workshop: Getting started with the rethink tool

  • Laura Niessen, PhD candidate, Maastricht University

Laura Niessen is a PhD student working on sustainable consumption (sufficiency or consumption reduction) by companies and circular business models in the Maastricht Sustainability Institute's ERC-funded Circular X project.

  • Speaker from business to be confirmed

The symposium will take place on April 15 from 13:00 to 17:00 (walk-in from 12:30, including networking drinks) at Course and Meeting Center Domstad (Koningsbergerstraat 9 3531 AJ Utrecht).

We cordially invite you to participate! And feel free to bring a colleague.
